The chosen winter rating will be dependent on your expected starting conditions, if it is below -35F or so then an oil with a 0W winter rating will be beneficial. If it is above 0F then any winter rating is acceptable.
Dec 8, 2021 · In winter, the 0w30 motor oil might be the most suitable motor oil to use. The 0w30 motor oil will work better and faster in the winter where the temperature is cold; the motor oil will quickly warm up the vehicle’s moving parts and the gliding surfaces. The 5w20 motor oil is typically used in winter or colder climates.
Jul 27, 2022 · At low temperatures, 0W-20 oil performs similarly to SAE 0 oil, while at extreme temps, it acts similarly to SAE 20 oil. 0W-20 is unquestionably safe for the engine. It’s pricy for a quart, but it’s the greatest fit for your vehicle, as advised by most manufacturers. 5W-30 oils are more powerful in cold weather.

On my last-generation Wrangler I used Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 for the first change, then Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20 on the next change. Jan 10, 2017 · I drive approximately 75miles a day and will be upgrading the car to approx 350hp from the 200hp stock motor. I have narrowed it down to 3 types of oil, but am stuck on the decision. Choices are: Liqui Moly (2332) Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Liqui Moly (3701) Top Tec 4100 5W-40 Liqui Moly (2041) Synthoil Premium 5W-40 I know they are all "good
Subaru Japans "best" oil is a 0w30 with euro oil type high temperature thickness. I see no benefit to 0w20 in this car (or any "performance" street car). Even cold weather is an iffy basis as there are 0w40 oils that flow better than 0w20 oils at full cold spec. TLDR: the answer is always Xw30 unless its Xw40. Its never 20. LOL. Serious tho.
Oct 10, 2018 · The better oils will feature some Ester molecules and adhere to metal better for the cold start-up. For summer also the 0w40 is excellent but for winter in Germany 5w30 or 0w30 if the specs show you a viscocity at 0 degrees perhaps close to 50 then you be better than 85. Do not pay attention to the bottle label. Read the specs.

Jun 25, 2023 · Location. Suburban Washington DC. Jun 24, 2023. #7. rlabutis said: 0w20 vs 5w20 in hot weather. Which oil is better for hot weather like in Florida. Makes no differance. It's the thermostat that controls engine temperature so if the air temperature is 100°F or 0°F, the engine temperature will be around 195°F after warmup in either climate.

May 18, 2023 · For countries without those regs, like Australia, the manual for the same engine specifies MANY weights without the message to switch back. From 0w-20 to 0w-16 one gets about 1% better mileage. It took a while to engineer the oil, but it is rated for the same service. 1% might amount to about 0.3 miles/gal more.

With the right oil in the engine, you can provide the protection it needs to keep running longer. Aug 7, 2023 · If you aren't tracking the car a day than you should be just fine on 0W20 oil, if your state usually hits over 105F in the Summer 0W30 isn't a bad idea in the long-term for some added protection but if this is just a road trip than there isn't any concern running the factory weight oil.

Oct 19, 2022 · The main differences between 0w-20 and 5W-30 oil include the viscosity rating, temperature compatibilities, and availability. 0W-20 oil has a lower viscosity rating when compared to 5W-30 and thus it is more fluid and flows better than other engine oils especially at lower temperatures thus more effective at increasing mileage.

Apr 26, 2022 · Compared to 5W20, 0W20 provides better cold start performance because it is thinner than its counterpart. It is known to flow without resistance and ensures minimal friction in the engine. Even though it may not offer the same performance as 0W30, it still does pretty well under high temperatures.
Dec 16, 2020 · Look at the chart below. A 20 weight oil has a viscosity range of 5.60-9.29 at 100 degrees Celsius. A 30 weight oil has a viscosity range of 9.30-12.49 at 100 degrees Celsius. With that said, a thinner 20 weight oil would be on the lower end of the viscosity range between 5.60-9.29. We will say 5.75 cST for example.
Nov 16, 2012 · You can also make your own 0W-30 with Mobil 1 oils. Four quarts of 0W-20 plus one quart of 0W-40 makes a very light 30 grade that has better cold pumpability than Mobil 1's 0W-30. Perfect if you WANT a (light) 30 grade oil. Not so much if you need to document the use of a 30 grade oil for warranty purposes.
